The Society for Science and Regeneron have announced the winners for this year’s International Science and Engineering Fair. This year’s fair was held in Atlanta, GA at the Georgia World Congress Center from May 7-13, 2022. Regeneron ISEF 2022 was a hybrid event with finalists competing both virtually and in-person. More than 1,800 students from 70 countries competed this year for over $8 million in awards and scholarships.
Jonathan Crawford (University School of Milwaukee) has won $5,000 and First Place in the category of Biomedical and Health Sciences for his project, “Defining the Mechanism of Fibroblast Death in Pulmonary Emphysema To Target Novel Therapies for COPD.”
Aryan Kalluvila (Hartford Union High School) has won $2,000 and Second Place in the category of Biomedical Engineering for his project, “An Efficient and Accurate Super-Resolution Approach to Low-Field MRI via U-Net Architecture With Logarithmic Loss and L2 Regularization.” Aryan has also won one of eight full tuition scholarships to Drexel University, each valued at $200,000, and a trip to participate in the Taiwan International Science Fair hosted by the National Taiwan Science Education Center (NTSEC).
Joyce W. Essuman (Nicolet High School) has won a $1,000 scholarship from the Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association (DCAT) for her project, “Assessment of Alternative Antimicrobial Substances on Staphylococcus epidermidis.”
Varun Nathan (James Madison Memorial High School) has won $500 and Fourth Place in the category of Material Science for his project, “3D Printed Foam Structures for Safer High School Football Helmets.”
Thomas Vielmetti (Nicolet High School) has won $500 and Fourth Place in the category of Systems Software for his project, “Novel Method for the Identification of High-Risk Space Debris.” Thomas has also won a $750 prize from the Air Force Research Laboratory on behalf of the United States Air Force.
