The Roles and Responsibilities of a Judge
Any adult with training in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent can volunteer to judge in the Science Fair. The Judging role is multi-faceted and depends on the judging area you have selected. Please review the responsibilities of judging in the following areas.
Category Judging – Senior High students – morning judging. Category Judging Form
Specialty Award Judging – Senior High students – morning judging.
STEM Process Judging – Senior High students – afternoon judging. STEM Evaluation Form
Junior High Judging – Junior High students – afternoon judging. Junior High Judging Form
In all cases, however, please remember these are junior or senior high school students with varying levels of skill and experience engaging the scientific method. ALWAYS treat the student with encouragement and respect, remembering that they are looking to you for guidance and feedback … and are, probably, more than a little nervous.
It is expected that a judge will remove him/herself from any form of evaluation if the judge has a conflict of interest or any relationship with any student(s) exists.
